Eleet Fitness – healthy living, motivation and change

Getting healthy can be hard work for some of us, but staying healthy is even more of a challenge. So often we find ourselves faced with the alternatives of running, cycling or otherwise taking some exercise and the comforts of a sofa on rainy day or a good movie in the air conditioned cool of your home on a scorching day. How can we get, and stay, healthy? How can we join the elite?

At Eleet Fitness, we are dedicated to helping you make the most of your life. We understand that motivation is key. There are as many reasons to live a healthy life as there are people wanting to do so. We all know that getting fit is beneficial, and we can find advice everywhere from web pages from insurance companies such as http://www.aviva.co.uk/health/ to our grandparents who will remind us of the virtues of a good walk. There is however a difference between helpful advice and proper guidance.

You may want to start training and living a healthier life to make daily tasks easier and less exhausting, to increase your amount of time on this earth with your loved ones, or to stay disease free. You may be suffering from a mood imbalance and know that that fitness is an important step in resolving this – to staying happy. Whatever your reasons getting fit, keeping motivated is a whole different matter.

Change can be difficult, but it is not impossible. In the modern world discipline has often acquired negative associations. It can be thought of in terms of corporal punishment, excommunication or harsh military training. However, to be successful, discipline should be an inner dedication or steadfastness. This can actually be a lot easier to achieve than we might think at first.

“The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it”, as Oscar Wilde put it. If we take ‘temptation’ to be a positive motivation, this principle can be applied to achieving excellence in healthiness. Rising to a challenge, friendship, increased happiness, the appeal to our competitive instincts, and many more, can all be harnessed to make us work towards healthiness.

Cortisol and Weight Gain

http://www.livestrong.com/article/366392-how-stress-cortisol-affect-the-metabolism/

Our View:

Exposure to high levels of cortisol can lead to sleeplessness, depression and obesity.  In today’s fast paced society we are often exposed to daily stressors, like financial hardships, rush hour traffic, family disasters and stringent work deadlines.  During stressful events your adrenal glands secrete cortisol.  Producing cortisol will cause your body to create glucose (sugar) by a process called gluconeogenesis.  This increase in new glucose (sugar) will aid you when you need to get away from danger however if you do not utilize this sugar (through activity) your body will quickly store it for later use.  Other responses to cortisol include suppression of the immune system and slowed digestive functions.  In extreme cases excessive cortisol in the body can cause Cushing’s Syndrome.  Symptoms often include weight gain, depression, high blood pressure and diabetes.  If you are feeling symptoms similar to those described by this article, talk to your doctor about checking your baseline cortisol levels.
